Full Bio
Born in Connecticut to Jamaican immigrant parents and raised in the Bronx, N.Y., Dr. Shatika James grew up witnessing firsthand how the failures of the healthcare system disproportionately affected underserved and marginalized communities. These early experiences ignited a lifelong commitment to improving healthcare delivery and outcomes — not just through clinical excellence, but by addressing the whole person and delivering care that is timely, compassionate, and worthy of trust.
Dr. James is a Doctor of Nursing Practice, ANCC Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner, and Board-Certified Emergency Nurse with nearly two decades of combined nursing, clinical leadership, and quality engineering experience. Her career spans emergency medicine, hematology/oncology, internal medicine, obesity medicine, metabolic disease management, preventive care, chemotherapy and other infusion therapies.
In her clinical practice, Dr. James has consistently driven measurable improvements in patient outcomes, safety, and satisfaction. At New York Cancer and Blood Specialists, she raised patient satisfaction scores to the highest level in two decades, cut port-related infection rates by half, and reduced adverse infusion reactions by 80% through innovative quality control protocols. Her work integrates precision in diagnosis and treatment with a deep respect for the human experience of illness, especially in populations facing systemic barriers to care.
Before founding Omni Health NP, Dr. James served in roles that demanded advanced clinical judgment, rapid decision-making, and coordinated interdisciplinary care — from the fast-paced emergency departments of Montefiore Medical Center to specialized hematology and sickle cell clinics, palliative care units, and oncology infusion suites. Her expertise is matched by her dedication to advocacy, patient education, and culturally competent care.
Omni Health NP reflects Dr. James’ vision to transform healthcare by making it more personal, accessible, and holistic. She believes in empowering patients with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to take an active role in their health, while holding herself and her team to the highest standards of clinical excellence.
Beyond her practice, Dr. James has contributed to national medical education, presenting at the American Association of Nurse Practitioners conference, and producing educational media such as Injustice, Quality of Life, and Coping with Sickle Cell Disease in the Healthcare System, a training resource for healthcare providers. Her professional activities also include quality improvement initiatives, such as developing post-training assessment tools to improve HIPAA-compliant communication and safety in hospital settings.
